the brief

When I was brought on board to build the brand for the Great Dunmow Soapbox Race, the event was still just an idea, with no previous history or content to lean on. The challenge was clear: create a buzz around a brand-new event and turn it into something that would not only raise significant funds for charity but also attract widespread interest and sponsorship.

Starting from scratch, I was responsible for everything from concept creation to logo design, website development, brochure design, event signage, and even handling the event’s photography, videography, and social media management. The goal was to build a visual identity that resonated with potential attendees and sponsors alike, generating excitement and anticipation for an event that hadn’t happened yet.

In the first year, thanks to the brand’s strong identity and the engaging content I produced, we managed to raise roughly £50,000 for charitable causes and attract a large crowd. The event’s success grew quickly, and by the second year, the Great Dunmow Soapbox Race had become the largest independent soapbox race in the UK, with over 20,000 attendees. Using the photos and videos I captured from the inaugural event, we built an even bigger buzz, drawing more sponsorships and a massive audience.

It was incredibly rewarding to see how the brand I helped create from the ground up could drive such success, not only for the event itself but also for the charities it supports.
